Nobody taught me this either

I started out in accounting. Not the glamorous end, the end where you learn how a business actually makes and loses money, and how much of that comes down to whether the paperwork gets done.

From there I moved into technology and was one of the first Xero employees in Australia, back when cloud accounting was a strange idea and most small businesses still ran on a desktop file and a shoebox. I saw first hand what happens when you take a painful, manual process and connect it to the right system. Businesses didn't just save time. They started making better decisions because they could finally see what was going on.

Then I went into building, through a management role at a large project builder. That is where I saw how a big builder actually runs: systems, process and repeatable documents, applied across hundreds of homes. Small builders do the same work with none of that behind them.

Then I went out on my own. I hold a licence, I run live jobs, and I have dealt with every part of it: tenders, variations, subbies, councils, clients, and the admin that piles up after hours. Refined Group builds homes, pools and landscapes across Sydney.

When AI got good enough to be useful, I treated it like any other system. I connected it to the real business. My email, my accounting, my files, my website. I rebuilt the Refined Group website with it. I set up reports that write themselves every week. I turned months of email on one job into a single dated record in one sitting. I use it to draft the emails I used to put off.
